This look was photographed very near where Lewis and Clark discovered the Pacific Ocean!!  Along the way to Cape Disappointment (which was named because of the high number of ship wrecks that used to occur) I found Pier 38 where over 100 700 lbs sea lions were hanging out!!!  Although I really wanted to see a whale on this trip, I was very excited to see the sea lions up close!

KEEPING PORTLAND WEIRD: Portland

Portland lived up to its reputation as “the place where young people go to retire.”  Lots of coffee shops, record stores, vintage/used clothing and book stores.  A good portion of the people on the street have a loud style regardless of their age.  I bought this whole outfit excluding the shoes and backpack at Buffalo Exchange.  I feel in love with the black Nike jacket and built the outfit around it.

I went to Mt. Rainier National Park today!  I didn’t think anything could top Olympic, but the mountain ranges in Rainier are incredible.  Unfortunately, my photography skills were not good enough to truly capture the vastness of park, but I hope these photos give you a taste of what they’re like in person.  For more nature photos visit my photojournalism blog: mariastraussphoto.wordpress.com

Today, I explored Olympic National Park in Washington.  I was amazed at all the different environments just inside the park.  The snowy pictures were taken at the top of Hurricane Ridge, which was 5,000 feet up!!  My favorite place in the park were Ruby Beach, which was filled with driftwood and rocks.  It was breathtaking.

I traveled an hour north of Seattle to a beautiful town called La Conner, WA.  It’s known for its tulip fields and festivals in April.  Unfortunately, all the tulips had been cut down and sold by the time I got there, but there were still plenty of other flower fields to gawk at.  I’m sure it was very obvious that I’m a tourist 😉

I had another amazing day in Seattle.  This city is truly unique; I can’t believe how many fun surprises are around every corner.  I really enjoyed the International District, especially the ping pong table in a park.  Tomorrow, I’ll be heading north to explore some of my nation’s greatest national parks.  Until then, xx
